A Taste of Home, A Journey of Flavour

Thanasakdi (Vin) and Sumalee’s love for Thai cuisine is rooted in both family tradition and a life of culinary adventure. Trained and experienced as chefs in Thailand, they arrived in Australia just a week before the 2006 tsunami, bringing with them a deep passion for food and culture.

Over the years, they’ve worked across various kitchens and cuisines, but their hearts have always belonged to the rich and vibrant flavours of Thai food. Every trip back to the Kingdom is a culinary pilgrimage—exploring everything from humble street vendors to Michelin-starred restaurants.

Sumalee’s mother, once a beloved food vendor in the bustling Bang Son district of Bangkok, inspired their dream to open Sumalee Thai. Her dishes, lovingly remembered and deeply missed, are the soul of their menu today. For Vin, childhood memories of visiting the local wet market with his mother and the joy of a simple pork skewer with sticky rice continue to shape his love of authentic flavours.
